The Russian mass media spread narratives about the failed counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian military is allegedly smashing Ukrainian units in a flash and easily burning the military equipment of Western partners. Is it really so? Do Russians continue to live in their imaginary pink world, where the “second army of the world” do everything? Trybun analyzed the situation.
Russian propagandists have been persistently talking about the total defeat of the Ukrainian counteroffensive for several weeks.The president of the aggressor country also tells about the failure of our military. He is sure that we have no chance of success.
According to Putin, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to break through in several areas of the front, but there are no results. He believes that our fighters will launch a counteroffensive with only a few tanks and armored vehicles.
“Right now, when we are talking, another attempt [counterattack of the Armed Forces] is being made in the so-called vremeske direction, in several areas, the enemy is trying to attack with the forces of several units with the support of five tanks, in the Zaporizhzhia direction the enemy is conducting attacks, too, with the support of two tanks and several armored vehicles. They approached the first border, lost several tanks. There is a battle going on at this moment”.
So, they say, Ukraine has no chance of victory, because the “second army of the world” is fighting back. In addition, in his “sick” opinion, the counteroffensive turned out to be so unsuccessful for the Ukrainians that the losses are equal to 1 to 10.
“Indeed, their losses are very high, even more than 1 in 10, compared to the Russian army. This is a fact.”
Propaganda mass media also actively report on the considerable losses of military equipment by Ukrainians. For example, it is said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost a third of the tanks and combat vehicles that were given by Western countries. According to Russian journalists, high trained Russian army turned everything into scrap metal.
Douglas McGregor, ex-advisor to the head of the Pentagon, also spoke about the so-called defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.He is known for his pro-Russian views. He told one of the propaganda publications that the Ukrainian army had not achieved any results and that our military could not even approach the Russian defensive lines. Allegedly, the main task of Ukrainian troops is to reach the defense line and approach important population centers.
“They [the Armed Forces of Ukraine] did not achieve any success at all, since in the Ukrainian counteroffensive everything revolves around the ability to reach the defense line, break it and then get to an important point, for example, Melitopol”.
In his opinion, Ukrainian soldiers can show off only a few destroyed buildings.
“The ex-adviser of the head of the Pentagon notes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can demonstrate “two or three destroyed buildings located 15-25 km” from the Russian defense lines as an achievement”.
Russian propagandists also manipulate the information of the Western mass media.For example, it is reported that at a closed briefing, Western officials discussed the difficult course of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.A mysterious source in the propaganda media reported that Russia had built a good defense, which was becoming a big problem for Ukrainians.From the very beginning, everyone knew that a counteroffensive would be risky for our military.
“The Russian troops generally hold their defense well in carefully prepared positions and retreat between tactical lines. Using a maneuverable defense approach creates problems for the Ukrainians, and it is costly for the advancing forces. Therefore, at the moment, the offensive is slow.”
Propagandists also say that European publications recognize the defeat of Ukraine in the counteroffensive. The article presents the opinion of John Mearsheimer's opinion. He is a professor at the University of Chicago who repeatedly showed his affection for Russia. He says that the defeat of the Armed Forces is only a matter of time.
“We are in a situation when the Ukrainians are unable to launch an offensive. I think that in the future you will see that the balance will constantly be in favor of the Russians. The Russians will achieve greater and greater success on earth.”
What is the reality about the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces? Do the Ukrainian military have problems with reaching the Russian defense line? Of course not. Our soldiers are successfully advancing and liberating temporarily occupied settlements. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar on her Facebook page. Since June 4, when the counterattack began, ours have liberated 8 settlements. The units advanced 7 kilometers deep into the captured territories.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also commented on the situation in Ukraine at a meeting with US President Joe Biden. He announced the progress of the counterattack and expressed his support.
Did the Ukrainian military have the heavy losses of Western equipment? The head of the intelligence center of the Estonian Defense Forces, Colonel Margo Grosberg, noted that Ukraine lost less than 10 percent of the donated equipment.
